The Everest Marathon is held annually on May 29 to commemorate the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary. Starting from Everest Base Camp at 5,356 meters, it is recognized as the highest marathon in the world. The course runs through challenging Himalayan terrain, descending to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters. Runners pass glaciers, Sherpa villages, monasteries, and suspension bridges along the way. Participants undergo a multi-day trek for acclimatization before race day to adapt to the high altitude.
